Family Information and FOPHS News Friday 2nd May 2025
Welcome back to the shortest half term I can remember. Hoping that the sunnier, warmer weather means students will be out in the community more. Im enjoying having lunch outside. We are just back and have a bank holiday on Monday!
02.05.25
Please remember to send in sunscreen and hats now that the sun has appeared. I sent a text earlier in the week.
I held a social coffee morning this morning and expect the lovely weather may mean people prefer to be outdoors!
Our catering staff have produced a new summer menu, and it looks wonderful.
Here are the links to the normal menu. There are alternatives for those on blended or modified diets.

Online Safety:
The link to the Online safety information can be found on the school website under the heading Parent and carers area, then online safety from the dropdown menu.
It is here: /percy-hedley-school/e-safety/
In this weeks online safety blog there is information on content creating/live streaming: There has been a big increase in the amount of school age children creating content online, particularly on TikTok, and part of this includes live streaming. The blog covers some safety tips for parents and students around live streaming.

Information
I remember well the beginning of my journey as a parent carer feeling overwhelmed, isolated, and not knowing where to turn. So, when I saw this role, my first thought was: EVERY parent should have access to something like this.
Meet Naomi: a parent carer, child psychology master, former seal trainer (yes, really!), proud dog owner, and the newest member of our hospital based By Your Side team
As a parent carer, cancer survivor and former foster mum, Naomi knows first-hand the difference 1-2-1 support can make. Especially in hospital, when youre most likely to need it.
When everything falls into place, you can relax a little and enjoy being a parent carer, she said. As Contacts newest adviser, I hope that sharing what Ive learned along the way will make things a little easier for families.
Naomi will be based at in Newcastle every Wednesday in term time, offering face-to-face support for visiting families (and with plenty of advice guides to hand out!)
But families across the north-east and beyond can also get in touch with our By Your Side team via email or phone. They can offer advice on all aspects of life as a parent carer from education and benefits, to sleep and accessing social care.

On the third Sunday of every month, they have Timba-Time; a sensory storytelling space for people with Learning Disabilities. This is very popular and books out early, so if you are interested get in touch with them. The poster is in a format that cant be copied.
Please see the information on the poster regarding the Hydrotherapy Pool. I know that some of you have tried and failed to book. There is a new system which may be of interest.

Student Council.
泭Many of you will be aware that we also support the School Council and over the last few years they have raised funds via the Mothers Day and Fathers Day sales. They have been meticulous in decision making on how to spend these funds, involving their peers and decided that they would like Animal Encounters to visit school. We have tied this in with STEAM week in June and all students will have the opportunity to enjoy. They will be in school for 3 of the 5 days, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and I am certain it will make the week more fun for the students and staff. Im staying well clear as there are snakes!
